SINGAPORE, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed up on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 1.19 percent or 40.65 points to close at 3,443.51.

A total of 1.10 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.04 billion Singapore dollars (about 787.9 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 272 to 123.

The STI index closed down 0.36 percent or 12.21 points to close at 3,402.86 Wednesday.
