BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar remained strong to trade at 31.54 pesos on Monday, according to the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA).

In comparison, Argentina's national bank had the U.S. dollar end the day at 31.40 pesos in the retail market, while the wholesale sector had it close at 30.97 pesos.

On Tuesday, Argentina's peso slid to trade at 30.55 against the U.S. dollar, according to the BCRA.

The BCRA offered a total of 210 million U.S. dollars on the market on Monday. In the morning, it tendered 100 million U.S. dollars at 30.86 pesos. Later it put up an additional 110 million U.S. dollars at a price of 30.84 pesos.

Last week, the BCRA took similar measures, but was unable to stop the peso's slide.

So far this year, the Argentine peso has depreciated 62 percent, the National Statistics and Census Institute reported.
